The Problem

A remediation plan is only as strong as its conceptual site model.

Dissolved contaminant transport is influenced by groundwater gradients, hydraulic conductivity, geochemistry, and preferential pathways. Monitoring wells provide direct water-quality data at their locations; spatial geophysics can help identify connections between those points and improve the conceptual site model.

Willowstick helps characterize potential groundwater pathways across a site, giving environmental teams a spatial framework for siting monitoring wells and testing a remediation concept. MM-ECD results are interpreted with direct water-level, water-quality, geology, and site-history data rather than used as a stand-alone plume map.

How Willowstick Maps It

Establish a controlled circuit: electrodes are positioned so a signature alternating current passes through the area of interest. Its distribution responds to saturation, pore-water chemistry, clay and mineral content, geology, and other controls on bulk conductivity.

Measure the response: the Willowstick instrument records the resulting three-axis magnetic field at georeferenced stations on a surface grid. The magnetic survey does not replace sampling and does not directly measure contaminant concentration.

Model and interpret: measured data are normalized against a homogeneous-earth reference and processed into 2D and 3D electrical-current models. Monitoring, geology, and hydrology guide interpretation of potential hydraulic transport pathways.

Deliver reviewable targets: the report presents mapped anomalies, interpreted pathway targets, model-derived depth ranges where supported, and limitations for planning monitoring wells, sampling, or remediation.
