Nelson Carbonell, Jr. is a successful technologist, entrepreneur, investor, and business strategist. In 2015 Snowbird Capital invested in Willowstick Technologies and Mr. Carbonell joined the board of directors. In 2010 Nelson founded Nelson Carbonell and Associates a firm that assists with strategy, financing, operations and technology. Prior to that Nelson founded Snowbird Capital in 2004. Snowbird provides private equity and mezzanine debt to middle market companies in North America. Snowbird’s investment fund has generated returns in excess of 15% per year. Prior to Snowbird Nelson co-founded Cysive in 1993, growing the company from a basement start-up to a successful public company. As president and CEO of the company, Nelson was responsible for guiding business strategy and vision. With Nelson at the helm, Cysive built pioneering ecommerce and Internet systems long before the potential impact of the Internet was widely recognized. Nelson paved the way for Cysive’s success by creating a company culture focused on fostering excellence and by remaining at the forefront of technology innovation. Prior to founding Cysive, Nelson was a technology executive at PRC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Black and Decker Corporation.
He currently serves as Chair of the George Washington University Board of Trustees. He also serves on the Board of the Association of Governing Boards. He is former Chairman of the Washington Baltimore Young President’s Organization (YPO) as well as a former member of the YPO International Board. Nelson enjoys golf, skiing, architecture, cooking, wine, physics and history. Nelson is a Cuban-American and speaks fluent Spanish. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from The George Washington University, where he graduated with distinction. Nelson resides in Great Falls, Virginia and Park City, Utah.
Val O. Kofoed, P.E.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Kofoed is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Willowstick Technologies, a technology company that maps, models, and predicts groundwater paths and patterns.
Mr. Kofoed has been involved with Willowstick Technologies from its conception.
His major responsibilities include directing Willowstick’s engineering operations, developing new technology, building and testing Willowstick instruments, ongoing research and development activities.
Mr. Kofoed possesses over 30 years’ experience and has provided technical service and consultation for numerous water resource projects and clientele. Prior to joining Willowstick Technologies, Mr. Kofoed spent 20 years (1984 to 2004) with SEI (a civil engineering consulting and survey company) where he served as a principle engineer and Vice President from 1987 to 2004 helping guide the company from four employees to almost 200. His primary role was Director of the Water Resource Division. He also managed corporate resources ensuring that projects were completed within the established schedule, budget and meeting SEI’s quality control processes to ensure maximum customer satisfaction.
Mr. Kofoed holds a B.A. in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University and is a registered professional engineer.
Director of Finance
Bryan Karren has been with Willowstick Technologies since July 2007. He is Director of Finance at Willowstick Technologies and prior to that was controller of the company. He is also a leader of Amp Capital Partners, the majority owner of Willowstick. Prior to joining Amp, Mr. Karren was Controller of Knight Avante, a manufacturer of child play areas for shopping malls for six years. Mr. Karren is a CPA and has a BS in Accounting from Utah Valley University and an MS in Accounting and Financial Management from the Keller Graduate School of Management.
Vice President of Sales
Mr. Blanchard possesses over 20 years’ sales management experience and served in various management and executive positions within the construction manufacturing and environmental containment industries. Prior to joining Willowstick Technologies, he served as Director of Sales, North America for GSE Environmental from 2011 to 2015. His global experience is extensive. Serving as Vice-President for Agel Enterprises from 2008 to 2011, Mr. Blanchard developed and executed strategies to enter global markets including South America and Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining Agel, Mr. Blanchard served in several management positions for Hilti Corporation from 2001 to 2008. His positions included Regional Sales Manager and Market Manager. Mr. Blanchard holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management.
